Medicinal Plants of Delaware
Join Community Read - a program designed to inspire reading and conversation. This year the connection between people and the natural world is further examined with Robin Wall Kimmerer's book, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants. Kimmerer explores the relationship between people and plants from her perspective both as a SUNY biology professor and a member of the Potawatomi Nation. For more information, visit longwoodgardens.org/community-read. As part of this partnership with Longwood Gardens, Mt. Cuba Center presents the following program.
Throughout human history, people have relied upon plants for healing. Explore the wisdom and culture of our local Native Americans, the Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation. Find out how plants were used to treat a cold, ease a stomachache, or aid in childbirth. Discover multiple uses for the flowers, trees and shrubs found in the woods behind your home and develop a deeper understanding of the connections between people and the natural world. Be prepared to walk outdoors.
